Interchangeability of Auxiliary Cooling Fans - W126 to W123

In the mid-'80s M-B changed the size of the electric auxiliary cooling fan on the 300SD from 12" to 15"; vehicles equipped with the smaller fan could be easily retrofitted with the larger fan to achieve better AC cooling. Conversion required the installation of the larger fan and two support struts - a 20 minute job, with no drilling required.

Mid-'80s W123 vehicles were also equipped with the 12" fan. Anyone know if the 15" diameter fan conversion can be easily accomplished in the W123? Thanks.
