1985 500SEL Loss of power and surging

It is not all the time. I just feels like it is not getting enough fuel. I have put a new filter on it and the pump is less than 6-months old. When you want to accelerate, it surges and shutters and the vacuum guage seems to move farther over into the red than usual. I disconnect the fuel lines at the distributor and blow air throught them and that seems to help for a day or so.

I suspected it was a clog in the fuel tank strainer but now I am wondering if it is something else. When I adjust the CO screw, the idle seems to smooth out. but I have to adjust it again every once in a while.

Verify that your frequency valve is buzzing. It sits next to the fuel dist on the drivers side and is the mechanism for electronic control of the otherwise hydraulic system. With it down the system is in the limp home condition.

I heard it ths morning....

But I am not sure if it is working all the time. Could it work intermitently and cause these symptoms? I guess I could try replacing it.
