82 123D engine change
I have an 82 240D 4 speed manual, non turbo, with over 300K miles. When i bought it it required a shot of ether to get started, then it would start normally all day. It wont start with the ether anymore and im assuming all those ether dry starts and high mileage have worn out the rings. I have located an engine with 175K miles for $400.00. I am planning on just swapping engines. Any comments or warnings to my plan? The engine mounts look a little tired. i might change them? Trying too keep the cost of this job down.

You should very strongly consider changing anything that ages like rubber
while the block is out. Soo much easier with no motor. That includes vacuum hoses too.

A clean rust-free 240D is worth $3,000 to the right person, if running, tuned, all windows and locks working, crack-free dash, and decent interior.
