Question Thumping under drivers side

1990 190e, 2.6, 91k miles. Sometimes if I brake a little quicker than normal, I have heard a thump under what seems to be my foot, or maybe towards the middle of the car. I'm usually on an incline (Slight) when I hear this. It hasn't happened for about a week now. Inspected ball joints/ bushings and everything looks fine. I have new flex disk on car also. What could this noise be? It usually thumps right before I come to a full stop. I sprayed silicone lube on the bushings, and then didn't hear for a couple of days. Then I heard it again. Any thoughts out there? Could this maybe be my front wheel bearings needing to be repacked? Thanks in advance. -JJ

It is very possibly the track rod mount, but it could be balljoints or control arm bushings, with the clunking felt through the track rod mount which is right at your left foot. The best thing to do is raise the car with wheels suspended and with a prybar start applying pressure everywhere until you find the loose component. If you don't have the equipment to do this safely, find a good shop.

Good luck,

Sounds like the ABS pump is running due to a defective front wheel speed sensor.
Does this happen going slow? & turning steering while braking?
If so then HAVE the ABS wheel speed sensors checked!

I've had it happen backing out of my driveway slowly, another time when I braked quickly, and another while braking and turning. It's only after I brake. What do I need to look for with the speed sensors? I'm in autotech school now, and it wouldn't be a problem to put it on a lift. I appreciate everyone's help and input. Thanks. JJ
