1984 500SE with 70K ; value?
There's a barn find near me....it has 70K on it, gold with a perfect brown(?) velour interior. The proverbial old doctor's car. It has been in storage for the past 8 years but seems to be all there. Some wood is delaminating inside, needs tires and a rear window (cracked), and a small surface rust bubble on the front fender by the turnsignal. The body and paint look great for its age....anyway.
Are these worth anything to anyone? Of course, I will get pix up if there's some interest. Did they all come to the USA with short (small) bumpers? I admit I know next to nothing about these cars. But its condition is worth letting others know about IMO. |

$700.....$1000 max. Some of the euro bits are worth money. But otherwise it's a fairly undesirable color / interior. I have never seen a brown Benz interior that I liked. And the gold exterior, well, its gold. All fixed up, it's probably worth around 2.5-3K.

LOL, thanks...well, its def a period piece being gold with the brown/burgundy velour. It has to appeal to someone.
I see them on Autotrader with well over 100K miles for 6-8 grand...but granted none of them are gold with brown. Not my first or even sixth choice. I'm meeting with the owner this weekend to see how it runs etc. |

It does have some potential. Short wheel base W126 with a euro 5.0 engine is a nice ride. Does it have european headlights along with the short bumpers? Ehhhh...that actually doesn't sound to bad.
AutoTrader is 90% dealers it seems. And the small group of private party sellers are basing their own sale prices on the crazy inflated dealer pricing. It will come down to, does this have the potential of being easily restored to what a 70K mile example should look like? You could get a 4-5K premium price from the right buyer if it actually looks its mileage. Or was it put away wet so to speak....and it looks like it has similar wear and tear of a car with 150K/200K on it....

Jim just to make it clear, you are looking at a euro model. It is more sought after than U.S. spec models. However that also means that some of the parts are harder to find over here ($$$). I would put it about $700-900 as it is, since you'll have to put some work into getting it up and running again.

Jim, just clicked through on the pic of your 500E. I've had that pic saved on my computer for at least 3-4 years, always wondered who's it was. Good color

I'd be interested, send info: VIN. No dreamer or speculator prices please. Been looking for one to replace my 420SE euro.
