Is Febi/Bilstein the same as Corteco?
Allmercedes just sent me some engine mounts in Febi/Bilstein boxes (with their part number).
I ordered Corteco engine mounts (OEM) and hence gave them a call. Their answer is that even though they are branded Febi/Bilstein, they are in fact still made by Corteco and are identical. Is this true?

From Auto Haus AZ's website:
Corteco and Micronair are divisions of The Freudenburg Group and supply a large number of filters, seals, mounts and maintenance items for most European cars. Febi Bilstein is known for OE suspension and steering systems. From Bilstein shocks and struts to Febi bushings, tie rods and control arms, you're assured of high quality products from Febi Bilstein. I can't seem to find anything indicating that the parts are actually made by Corteco. I did find this: http://electronics.become.com/febibilsteincorteco--034-cell-fltr---brand-html It says Febi-Bilstein/Corteco. Other than that I've no evidence. I did see on one Passat board that Corteco stuff is apparently still made in Germany. One of the posters on there reported that Febi/Bilstein is made in china/asia somewhere.

It's for an M111.960 engine
To make things clear I ordered and paid for the OEM brand, but got non-OEM brand. So as I see it I got ripped off. I could get Boge/Sachs engine mounts locally for half price of the OEM ones. So, they screwed me over I take it?

Febi/Bilstein is a re-packager! Not a manufacturer of parts. They purchase OE & aftermarket parts & re-box them.
You can get parts made in China in a Febi box.

" Thank you for your visit to the febi bilstein web site. febi, like many other companies in today's world, has a variety of global sources for products, including China. As such, all febi products manufactured outside Germany are marked on the packaging with the country of origin. Also like other companies, febi is often confronted with counterfeit products. We mark our product febi Germany to maintain our identity as a German company, and to provide assurance to our customers that they have real febi products. I truly hope that you do scrutinize febi more closely - you'll find a quality product at a fair price. febi is a family owned and operated company that is 164 years old, and is currently managed by the 6th generation of the family. We are still a manufacturer, with our manufacturing facility solely in Germany, where we still make some items that we supply as OEM to German car manufacturers, as well as to many of our competitors. Best Regards, Jeff Lateer febi bilstein Sales Manager North America "

So, there is a chance it is OEM, and a chance that it's some Chinese crap as well?

The important thing is that wherever manufactured it was to spec and had stringent quality control. If you are concerned then best to purchase at a higher price Genuine Mercedes Benz parts. Still won't guarantee who made and where made, but parts will be fully warranteed by MB ! ![]()

I took out the original mounts today which has the MB emblem and part number stamped onto the metal, whereas the new ones don't.
So, Allmercedes charged me for OEM mounts but definitely did not send me what I paid for...

Unless the part is advertised as genuine OE, it usually does not come with the same markings. |
