In the manual doesnt it show what zone it has to hit to deploy?

In mine on page 42 it shows a frontal area for deployment, not any side deployment...

the sensor is very clever, is better to not deploy the bag when its not needed so I think the benzo did a good job.

I love my 190D and will probably always have a W124/126/201 in my garage.

It was probably for the best that the airbag didn't deploy. I image that would have knocked the driver unconscious.

As I understood it she got out of the car just in the nick of time as the engine/back of the car caught fire. The linkage must have gotten jammed up or something as she was hit because the car accelerated and took off towards the church on the corner there.

Car #1 is the 300SE. Car #2 is the Pontiac

Sigh, so the engine died in the crash. The person in that sunfire should be sentenced to tasering until dead.

Wow, that is AMAZING. Glad to hear the MB occupants are alive and well. I hope the drunk driver is in worse condition. What amazes me though is that the grille on that car appears to be perfectly intact. What a shame to have a great car like the W126 totally destroyed - senseless.

I was wondering why the back of the car was covered in rubber bits and the tire was shredded

Yeah they're improving. The passenger went back to school today and work as well. Driver is still improving.

Drunk driver is unknown, police report said no injuries to him.

The grille and 300SE badge on the back was removed and is going to be mounted on the wall-of-fallen-cars in my buddy's basement. He has random bits from his other cars up on the wall. A testement to all that he has driven and worked on.

The 300SE, was just about through a restoration. He has a set of brand new fenders in the garage for the car. As well as a bunch of new air condition components.

That's why we drive these tanks! I live in a college town and I damn near get tagged every day.

That truly is an impressive performance, there was very little intrusion.

The airbag did not go off because the impact was not at the right angle, as others have noticed. Those W126 airbags are violent, so it's good it didn't go off. Did the seatbelt pre-tensioners go off?

I'm so glad to hear everyone is okay, sad that another fine 126 has bitten the dust, but it did its job - sacrificed itself for the occupants!

Even with better crumple zones in some modern cars, there is no substitute for weight and height.

Well

To take a positive spin - I hope everyone got to learn something. To the drunk, I hope they never make that bad decision again, and I hope the innocent people fully recover, and maybe, this will influence future buying decisions and the next MB they get will also protect them in an accident, possibly saving a life or two. Mistakes happen, it is what happens afterwards that makes the difference.

I'm curious as to that myself. I'm not entirely sure. I didn't even think of checking when I was at the car today. The passenger was not buckled up as I recall. Driver was though.

I had no idea your mom would be getting such rotten med treatment or I would have suggested this much earlier.

She really needed to see a chiropractor the day she left the hospital. Each day that goes by only intensifies the muscle memory factor.

They work wonders for accident victims.

There is a metal tube going across the dash, just for these type accidents.
