W201 Automatic Transmission Issue
I just picked up a 1990 190e 2.6L Automatic and have started restoring it (since it was sitting for the past 2 1/2 years). I am in the process of flushing all fluids, and with the transmission changing the seal and filter and *hopefully* using Royal Purple Auto Trans fluid.
I do have a question, however. It seems that it does not shift into 4th gear. Actually I have to shift into 3rd for the forward gears to engage. The shifter feels loose. Is it something that might correct itself with the fluid flush/change? Thanks ahead of time. |

Possibly the linkage is connected wrong. Does it go into park OK? Does it shift in to reverse and neutral properly? When in reverse are the reverse lights coming on? Can you start it only in park or neutral?

Is there any place where I can find how to replace the AT shift linkage bushing? Is it accessible from inside the cab or are we talking about an "under the car" kind of project? Thanks. Also, I have the service CD, but maybe I am missing where that is located.

Gilly, it goes into park fine, it seems like I have to go "down" the shifter one space and then back into the correct gear/selection to get what I want. That is, instead of D, where I seem to only get 3rd gear tops.
