ATTEMPTED breakin!!!!

Our community has experienced 6 attempted breakin"s of car in the last week. The next day each car had a dead battery. One car owner (car was locked in garage) reported that his dealer stated the symptoms are related to some kind of electronic device that remotely disables the security and ignition system. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Does anyone know of such a device with this capability? We have contacted the police, but would appreciate any info on this.

Something's missing here. Sounds like you need to get all the facts straight first. There's no such thing as a device that allows thieves to "break into" a car that's inside a "locked garage", without first entering the garage.

If it is indeed thieves, and you want to eliminate the "problem", I recommend a Sig Sauer, or a Glock.

CRIME ALERT

VEHICLE BREAK-INS

During the early morning hours several vehicles were broken into on Hesketh Street and West Irving Street on the blocks between Magnolia Parkway and Cedar Parkway. A total of 11 vehicles were entered; 9 were parked on the street, 2 were parked in driveways. All the vehicles were unlocked. The suspect(s) entered the unlocked vehicles and went through the glove box, consoles, etc. looking for items to steal.

Village Police discovered two of the break-ins at approximately 1:30 a.m. while on routine patrol. Fingerprints were taken and submitted for analysis. During a neighborhood canvass a resident thought they heard a car alarm going off around 2:00 a.m.

Please contact the Village Communications Center (301) 654-7300 if you see or hear anything suspicious.

There are devices that mimic the frequency of the garage door opener and also the car alarm, but you are talking serious tradecraft here.

This is not something you're gonna find in the hood.

Anybody who has that kind of device is not stealing radar detectors. If they had an electronic defeat to the security system on your Benz, your Benz would be inside a shipping container and on a boat to Poland by now. No joke.

Unless the Garage opener is ancient it will likely use a revolving code system, which are close to impossible to fool or activate.

Time for common sense:

1. Lock car
2. Park in Garage
3. Don't live in Ghetto

Lupin...the...3rd. It was an "attempt" to breakin and the car was locked, not the garage! All the other "attempts" were on cars parked on the street.

I have a question: How do you know if it was an "attempt to break-in?" Either they broke in or they didn't, because an attempt would mean that someone must've actually caught them trying to do so. And if they actually broke into the car, then what? Surely they didn't plan on stealing the car if they had a device that disabled the car battery.

Maybe all these people had their battery fail at the same time? Cars are locked in a garage, and are still locked, but had bad batteries in the morning?

EMP (or "Pinch")

The "Dead Batteries" part is what's REALLY SCARY!
Think about it...

Only Two causes come to mind:

The EMP Generator is one
(Ain't nobody 'Cept maybe Somebody's [?] Government riding around with one of those...
No, Don't EVEN go the George Noory route,Aliens don't want anything in your car!)

OR (And I'm not even sure this is possible Electrically/Physically/RF)

Some kind of device that "Excersises" some control over ONE large consumer
,or MANY small consumers So that the Batteries are Drawn Down to "Dead".
Mayhaps, a "Rolling Code" breaker box that wears out the Batteries, trying to
open the Remote Door Unlock Functions of the Vehicles involved?

I.E. : "Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Etc., Etc.,Etc. Ad Infinitum until Battery's
Dead ?

Only reason I got started here...Remember all the trouble with unshielded
control cables in the Fly By Wire system on the Apaches Originally?
Some one in Utah would make a Cellphone call and an Apache would fall out of the Sky in North Carolina?

Well, none of the Electronics on these cars are shielded...In Fact the Remote
Antenna is a perfect "Back Door" to wreak havoc on the electrics/electronics.

bluestripe67,
LOOK @ your zip code...

The Guys and Gals at NSA testing out some new equipment in y'alls neighborhood?

'Just how far Geographically are Y'all from Embassy Row?

PRC ops screwing with U.S. Citizenry...
嗨,它在他們的汽車上工作。
以及通用製作他們的箱 ...

Uncle Vladimir's Comrades using Y'all as a Test bed for Tank Disablement...
Эй, Это воздействует на их автомобили.
И GM Делает их Резервуары...

Best possible causation: Someone @ "OnStar" was bored
(And all the Vehicles involved were made by GM)

Streknik and Tinypanzer are both correct.

I've got an remote RF device that disables/disconnects the Battery.
(And it has it's own Tiny 12V power source.)
[And it's not anywhere near the Battery]
I'm LOOKING @ it as another Weak Link, Now.

a good car alarm automatically resets its codes everytime you arm/disarm it,pros use a device that when you activate/deactivate the alarm,it captures the code that is transmitted to the reciever, the thief can later on use this captured alrm code to disable the alrm system, but like i said most good alarm systems viper included send out hundreds of jamming codes,in most cases a watchfull eye,on a fully locked and alarmed vehicle, with a loaded shotgun or pistol, will deture most crack heads trying to find loose change for there drug habits, the alarm is set of when the vehicle is armed and the handle on the inside of the vehicle is released.if it was me id watch my car as close as i could then chase off the crack addict with a loaded 12 gauge with modified shells, first you cut open the top, then you remove the pellets and plastic casing that holds them together, remove the plastic plug, then remove 50% of the smokeless powder, then what you need to do is fill the empty shell with hard rock salt, then repack it tight with some tissue paper, then blast the bastards in the buttocks, its non leathel and he wont be able to sit for 1 week from the intense burning from the salt, just my honest opinion.
