I rebuilt the steering box on my '83 300CD and I think it has 24. If you've got an FSM for the car it should be in there. If not, look on EPC and see if the same re-circ ball steering box was used on other models. The quantity may even be listed in EPC, like in a rebuild kit or something, or maybe the dealer.

I think mine were a 7 mm bearing.
