What are they called?
What do they do?
How can you tell if they are bad?
What kind of symptoms would happen if they are bad?

Looks like the subframe mount bolt. If the subframe mounts are bad you will have a lot of rumbling and popping sounds from the front end.

These are parts in my cars rear end. Would the sound still come from the front?

what year car are we talking?
They look like bushings and look like they are worn out!
Your pics show the springs right next to them.....frame bushings?

Sounds like rear frame bushings.

a presentation of pictures upright would help
