1995 W124 Cabriolet - wiring harness

While trying to figure out a top problem, I took a closer look at the wiring harness - which appears to be OK.

There are two harness labels near the battery.

This label is on a thin cable with a two prong connector:
Part number - A124 440 2933
ZD - 7.09.94
FD - 3.11.95

This label is on a fatter cable nearby:
Part number - A124 440 4905
ZD - 14.12.92
FD - 19.10.95

I believe this means I have the bio-degradable harness, but would appreciate confirmation before ordering a replacement. Thanks.

Yes, the 2933 is the upper engine harness and an FD / fabrication date of March 1995 would be original. That's the later version of the harness, and the most expensive, around $750 at XXXX

The other harness is the engine harness, body mounted, which shouldn't be a problem.

PS - just realized that's a fabrication date of November 1995 - which makes no sense. What is the production date of your car? Possible that you have an early replacement and that it's OK.

Just found these posts from Arthur:

My FD is 3/11/95. Nov 95.

My label is a paper sticker.

I was planning to use a 10% off coupon (exp July 5th) from germanimportedparts for a replacement harness, but maybe I wont have to. Thanks for the confirmation.

Your production date is on the driver door sill. It must not be true that ZD date means its original because yours shows one. In any case it looks like you have a replacement harness.

Good to know. I've been meaning to join, that's another good reason...
