300 CE blower motor/regulator

First of all thanks to jslabotsky and jbach36 for their wiki

http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

My blower motor quit a couple of weeks ago.. with some trouble shooting everything pointed to the regulator. I was fortunate to snag an aftermarket one on Ebay for 67 dollars new.

Anyway, the job was pretty straightforward thanks to the instructions provided by these guys.

I can't figure out what makes the regulator go out. My blower motor appeared to be stuck a bit. I applied oil to it and gave it juice and it finally started spinning like a champ.

That said...I wonder if was hanging up and caused the regulator to go bad?

The fuse was fine.

I only did one boneheaded thing: I forgot to plug the windshield wiper motor back up. So i I had the grille on and then remembered. That cost me about a half hour.

3.5 hour job.

Lee,

The regulator is a solid state device. It is a power transistor mounted on a heat sink (that thing with all the pins on it). Airflow is required to keep the transistor cool, otherwise it burns out. If you had the climate control on without an operating blower for long enough, you can burn out the regulator.

Put a new regulator in and it worked like a champ.... for a day.

now no air again... i am going to have to pull to test the motor and see if it was ok.

the other day i bench tested the motor and the shaft could be turned by hand but not freely... i lubed it a bit...and it seemed to be fine on the bench

like i said it worked for the day..but then on the way out to dinner last night.. the fan just stopped...no squeaks or squeals.

..oh and i have a new strip fuse for measure.

the regulator is under warranty for a year.... if that is the problem again..

when you get in there look at the carbon brushes and check the length.you can see by the braided copper wire, which on a new one will be all the way at the top.i think that old motor also had bearing lubrication issues and you gave it a few more hours.

The sintered bronze bearings in those motors are not very forgiving. When they go, they go. Oil will give you a few more hours like David said, but you're better off getting a new motor if you can get the fan wheels off without breaking them, or get a whole new blower assembly (more $$$). I have a new motor in the box if you would like to buy For the time being, keep the pushbutton unit off until you get a new fan!

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you elaborate?

blower motor

You said you had a new one in a box. How much do you want for it?

I can get one from **********.com for about 75 dollars shipped.
