Recommend doing some diagnostic work before randomly replacing parts. That may mean paying a local indie do diagnose the problem.

yeah, but i'm impatient....

my indy came to the parking lot on his day off and helped diagnose it. he says it's the pick up assembly and if not, the ICM. my problem is that i don't want to wait to get the assembly tomorrow to find out it's not the right part, and overnight another, more expensive part (when i might be able to buy the cheaper one). the car is sitting in not the best area of town and i'm bumming rides to get home. can't move it because my indy is an after hours guy, the lot is not his to park cars in and take up space...

and, i'd rather not have this happen again. new parts = peace of mind.

my ignition control module part number is 0 227 100 001 and then what appears to be a "B". it's Bosch.

from everything i've read and researched, the late chassis numbers will NOT work in my car. somewhere down the line they changed to a different kind. the one i have is rectangular with the long side having the plug connections. the later one has the plug connections on the shorter side of the rectangle.

i've had a few offers from people who have them, i'll be contacting everyone individually as soon as i find out today whether or not the pick up assembly fixes the problem. thanks!

Can the pick up assembly be tested like a Crankshaft Position Sensor and cable?

Ohms reading and then ac output voltage while cranking the engine?

i'll ask my indy today when we put the new one in. i assume he tested everything he could and all was working well so he figured it was the pick up assembly or ICM. either way, hopefully today is the day we get really down and dirty and find out what is and isn't really working.

indy put in the pick up assembly last night, didn't fix it. next up is the ignition control module but now i'm questioning my indys ideas.

at this point i'm thinking of going at it alone. back to the drawing board. i've ordered a new coil, i'm sourcing and buying the ICM. the problem is that any of the ideas i'm getting from people, i've never done before. i might start tackling all of these ideas but i'm going to need help with procedures.

i've got a new fuel filter to put in. guess i should look at the pump again.

crankshaft position sensor? i didn't think my car had one but maybe it does? anyone know where it's located so i can look at it? anyone know how to diagnose it and/or replace it?

now my wife's giving me sarcastic smiles, asking me if i want to track down my 300D and buy it back...

The crankshaft position sensor should be on the front of the engine above the crankshaft. If a new CPS doesn't resolve your problem I would try to borrow an ICM to see if that's the issue before buying a new ICM.
