What did I do? A/C blower E420 burned strip fuse holder

So my blower has been giving me problems. I diagnosed that I needed a blower regulator in my 1995 E420, so I bought a new one and put it in.

I have a spare blower motor and have been looking for replacement brushes for it. I couldn't find any in the correct size, so I ordered some from Ebay, and they are on the way. I THOUGHT the current blower motor still had some life left...

At this point, I had high fan speed and lo fan speed, but no auto functioning. I found my aspirator blower was not running, so I ordered that motor and have it now.

Suddenly, while A/C blower on high, the blower cuts out, and I see some smoke coming from the drivers side engine compartment. My 30 AMP strip fuse holder is completely melted.

I realize I should have just replaced the blower motor brushes when I did the regulator, but I didn't and now I have made things worse. This seems to be a recurring theme with my DIY projects. Grrrrrrrrrr! Anyway, what do I do now?

I have the brushes coming....hopefully next Monday. What do I do about the burned fuse holder and wires? How do I figure out what caused this....or rather how because we know the what (me!)?

Any help is greatly appreciated. It is ~100 degrees.
