Bulb Warning light on. What bulbs to check?
This damn light won't go off for some reason
I've checked all the outside bulbs... Signals OK Main beams OK Brake light OK License plate bulb OK Rear lights + signals OK What else could it be? Does it illuminate for any interior bulbs out? Any ideas? Thanks

What about park lights?
It's only for external lights. 3rd brake light is included in the circuit.

All external bulbs including stop and reverse. If you are sure all your bulbs work the relay is under the screwed down cover behind the fuses and is the longest relay in there. The cooling fins for the headlights can go out and a new relay is needed. If it halps it is the same relay in the 126's. I got mine from a newer 95 MB in a bone yard for cheap and been good ever since.
Also wrong wattage bulbs will draw too much and make it come on. IE fog lights are 50-60 watt if you get the brighter 100-110 ones it will come on when you turn on the fog lights. Many threads on the wattage and the bulb out indicator relay on benzworld. |

The light is on immediately as I start the car...
I thought about the relay, but before I went and soldered/oven tricked it, just wanted to make sure no interior bulbs were part of the circuit. All my bulbs are within spec. I believe 55W.

Did this occur after installing the fog lamps?

ps2cho, it's odd that the Lamp Out warning light illuminates as soon as you start the engine unless you have your foot on the brake pedal. The warning light normally illuminates when braking if one of the brake lamps (including the rear deck) is burnt out, or when you turn the headlight switch and one of the driving lights/head lights is burnt out.
Check the base of all lamps in both rear clusters. Sometimes a portion of the base will flat-spot and cause problems with the Lamp Out warning light. Be sure to use Osram Sylvania replacement lamps of the correct wattage. Pep Boys sells Osram Sylvania replacement lamps in our area, but other automotive stores probably sell them too.

The lamp out indicator is only able to detect a burnt out lamp if the lamp is powered. If it is coming on as soon as the key is switched on it sounds like it could be a problem wth the lamp monitor itself.

No. Several weeks after. It started only when I would accelerate (odd?)...then would go out when I would brake. Then slowly did it more frequently and now it is on all the time.
Ok thanks guys I'll try cooking the relay using the 'oven trick' and report back.

It may be as simple as an almost broken filament. I just replaced one bulb (10W standing lamp) on mine. It would sometimes turn on when I went to park lights, sometimes it wouldn't. I had to tap the tail light lens a little to get it to turn on. Pulled the bulb and the filament was nearly broken, but enough to still light up.
Went ahead and replaced them.

What about the trunk light? We sometimes forget about this little bulb.

Like others have posted unless you put power to a light it should not come on. If it comes on when you start the car and foot is not on the brake the relay should be the issue, unless you plugged the wiper plugs to the headlight assembly on accident..... all cars have the wiper plug , withor without the wiper. They are just long enough and the same holes as the headlight plug. That will allow powerto the light when starting and will allow indicator to come on, I did this once when repairing my headlight doors.

Just removed and put the relay in the oven @ 400F for 10mins.
Put it back in and now the fog lights fuse is blowing. So the cooking did something! I'll check the fog wiring tomorrow. I just simply plugged it in directly in place of the OE fogs.

Just get a new relay or newer relay from a junkyard. Dont know about the cooling but the relay serves 3 body styles so find a newer year benz and get one and you should be gtg. They replaced the "cooling fins" inside around 93 to solid state so they seem to hold out better. Same part numbers they just figured some stuff out.
