1989 190e needs engine. what years 3.0l will fit?
I am looking for an engine for my 190e 2.6l. I have a salvage yard with a 3.0l from a 1990 300e. Will it work?

^ What he said, it should bolt and fit in the engine bay / transmission tunnel just fine.

The transmission is different between a 2.6 and 3.0l. Externally not different - internally slightly different. If you can bring along the 3.0l tranny it would be good.

don't forget to change the motor mount arms from the 2.6 to the 3.0.although they look the same if you use the 3.0 arms the engine will be back into the firewall.

hmm. If you get the chance to photograph those arms side by side, that would be a nice bit for the archive. Thx -CTH

There are a few 3.o conversions running around on the list. One in California- the guy actually put a 350sdl crank in the engine which bumps it up to 3.4 liters or so. I think he had some rods made to make the package work.

1993 engines are either 3.2 liter or 2.8 liter HFM M104 engines, not 3.0 liter M103's.

Air cleaner will have to use the old one from the 2.6. W201 has low hood level compared to W124.
Not sure if 1990 M103 has smog pump. You might have to figure out a way with that since the 89 does not have any.

1989 190e 3.0liter
Just installed this 3.0l into my 190e. it will not run for anything. I replaced the crank sensor with one from a 1989 300e with a 3 liter. could it be the problem?

1990 190e 2.6L California model does indeed have a air pump and EGR, all of which must be present and operational to pass a California smog inspection.
