86 300e will not start when the engine is cold.

what should i replace and does anyone have a repaid manual?

my 300e will not start alone in the morning or after it cools down. you have to continue to crank it over and pump the gas, when it starts, it idles really rough and dies.
she continues to do this until the temp is a little over 40 degrees and then i can take my foot off the throttle and she will idle normal and with no problem....

please help!

thanks,
jonny

jonny,

you need to find a manual or by a factory CD. I think they are $30 or so. Are you mechanically incline?
I'd check function of the cold start valve, look for intake leaks, and check fuel pressure. That being said- checking the condition of cap and rotor and wires as they ussually work better when hot (Dry).

Can you post a pic of the location of the cold start valve?
How does someone check fuel pressure?

I'm mechanically inclined but i'm a little bit intimidated about working on a mercedes.
Don't ask why I just am..

Also I wanted to know if there is a specific brand of oil, power steering, auto trans fulid everyone uses on their older benz's

thanks again,
Jon

Did you change the water temp sensor or the air intake sensor? Neither one should effect the A/C coming on or not though. However, your blower motor may be shorting out. Do you feel cold from the vents but just no air flow? Kick the right side of the driver's footwell towards the bottom. I got my daughter's blower to start up that way until it completely failed. Had our mechanic friend install a new blower (there's a DIY link under Resources at top right of this page) and it works like a charm now. There's also a linked fuse along the top left of the driver's side under the hood that goes to the blower motor and contacts could be corroded. It's rectangular and the cap pops off easily.

Talking just ordered

plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel filter, air filter, bought some sea foam, had al the brakes including park brake replaced, OVP bought off ebay.

with the tune up, carbon cleaner and OVP i'm hoping this will help the cold start.

Thanks for the help.

Monday off at the office = working in the garage.
