ignition switch or starter

ok, i have never heard of this one.

1994 e320... owner says a mercedes mechanic told him it needed an ignition switch..... when he starts it... the starter keeps running while the engine is running...and it supposedly draws or shorts the battery.

mechanic told him its a classic problem..

i am interested in the car....but its too far away to check out for a joy ride.

i would have to go up there and put in an ignition switch... not the part with the key...but that piece behind it.. i think i have the part already

Ya sounds like the spring is shot, maybe if he turns the key back slightly it may stop doing that? Like its not returning to its run position. Or that pin or contact has pulled out inside.
