560 SEC w new wiper motor won't park right.

I had a new wiper motor put in because after changing the combination relay, the wipers would stop anywhere but where they are suppossed to on the windshield. I got a new motor, had it put in, and the wipers now stop at the bottom of the windshield, but won't park or go down so you can't see them. The mechanic has no clue as to why, and said he tried 3 times to get it right but just doesn't know how. He's normally pretty good.

When I turn on the wipers, they first go down out of sight to the park position and then begin their wiper action and otherwise function normally. However, once they are shut off, they only go to the bottom of the windshield(sticking up into view), but not down out of sight to the park position.
How do I fix this myself, or get the information so my mechanic can fix them without going to the dealer $$$? I've searched the forums adn can find nothing.
Thanks!

The only thing it can be is the crank arm is not on the motor shaft in the correct position.

I don't think that's it, because the wipers cycle lower than where they are parked when I turn them on.

Well sure, that's exactly what it is. If the arm was on the shaft in the correct position, when the motor parks, the crank arm will allow the wiper arms to be in the lowest position. Where the crank arm is now, when the motor parks, the crank arm is not allowing the wiper arms to be in the lowest position.

The motor will only allow the wipers to go from the lowest point to the highest point. The "trick" is to get the crank arm installed so when the MOTOR parks, the wiper arms are also parked (lowest position) and he failed to get the crank arm on the motor shaft to make this happen correctly. It's not hard to fix, but he's taking the wiper assembly out again to do it. He should have checked it before reassembling everything.

That's because when the motor starts running, the crank arm is going to the point that the arm SHOULD be in when the motor is parked. You can put the crank arm on the motor shaft in any position you want, but only one position is correct. Someone could goof this up to the point that the wiper arms will be right up by the windshield pillar, it doesn't really matter. Nothing can get damaged. The wipers will just keep on cycling and nothing will happen. The only thing that can happen is what YOU have, the arms arent' parking in the proper position because the crank arm is NOT in the correct position. I believe it should be put on so that when the motor is PARKED (which is what the mechanic probably had wrong, it wasn't parked) the crank arm should point towards the center of the car (90 degrees flat). I could be wrong, it possibly should face to the left (opposite direction of what I said, but I believe it should be horizontal one way or the other).

Thanks

OK, I'll pull it apart and try to re-attach it in the correct position. I'll post a response either way. Thaks Gilly!

I haven't taken it apart yet because of the weather here, but I was remembering back when they were working normally. The wipers would end up just below where they are parking now, stop for a split second and then pull down out of view. It no longer has that post-sweep parking movement. Does that mean anything, or is it simply the issue you've so eloquently stated?

Just sent you an email, you can disregard, I just figured out how to post this:

NOTE steps 10 and 11 I think is where the problem is. This isn't how I thought it was. Not sure if it's different due to it being a SEC?? Didn't notice that til now.
