1998 E320 MIRRORS

I need help on the side mirrors on my new wagon. It seems a spring has come loose from the inside of the mirror housing. I have a picture of the parts list and don't see the spring in the picture. Can the mirror spring be hooked back to something inside the mirror, or do I have to buy new mirrors.

The spring typically bends over or breaks off the attachment point on the mirror framework. It is easy to wrap some wire through the spring end and around the end of the mirror framework. By pulling with a pliers you can stretch the spring and twist the wire at the same time to get the tension back. You can see my DIY fix at
http://www.mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w210/335979-floppy-side-mirror-w210-fix.html I think you will find it to be an easy fix.

Any way you can send a picture of how you get the housing off. I see a rod that runs down and attaches the mirror to the frame.

Thanks for the info that saves about $300

Steps 1 and 2 describe how to get the housing off. If you look at the pictures, the wire bail that you see on the right, is snapped behind some tabs on the housing. You just pry the wire away from the tabs to release the housing. Before you do this, adjust the mirror as described so the glass will clear the housing when it is pulled off.

Hey
Sorry to sound like a dummy, but what do you mean by a wire bail. Do you have a picture of that with the mirror still on?
