2 batteries for W211 what do they cost?
My battery light came on, visit workshop indicator.
W211; 04 E320 I had the front battery checked and it is bad but with the car 7 years old the mechanic recommended I change them both. Dealer wants $750.00 installed which seems high. ![]() ![]() ![]() What can I expect to pay if I shop around the private shops??? ![]() L

That sounds a bit high. My dealer sells the big battery for ~$190.00 and the little one for ~$200.00. Figure 1.5 hours labor and it's still less than $600.

Thanks
Kind of funny. since my other Benz is an 81 300SD I went in thinking this won't be an $80.00 battery I better bring $200.00 for this to be safe. My private shop quoted me $450.00 so it sounds good. $450.00 sounding like a good deal is funny. Not ha ha funny, the tears rolling down your cheeks kind of funny. ![]() L

Hello??? Hello??? Is this thing on????
![]() ![]() ![]() I thought I would update on buying two batteries and having the computer rebooted or whatever they do to it at my private shop. With tax it came to $407.00 for everything Plus he let me drive his 500SL (late nineties or 2000 or so) and I stopped by the local gun shop as the smith was cleaning up a recent purchase. Recognizing it as a German WWII trainer Mauser 22LR KKW all matching in very good cosmetic and with an excellent bore I was shocked when I asked what they wanted for it and they said $325.00 Long story short I asked the owner what my cash price would be (He lives three doors down from me and I use his chimney to bore site my scopes) and he did the math and said $317.70!!!! out the door. Sold!!!!!!!! I said!!! That is a $600.00 plus plus plus gun. I would have never got that deal if my private shop had not lent me his car to drive around and play (using his gas) Almost pays for the 2 batteries ![]() L

$407 for batteries?! Are they dry-cell Optima type? That sounds quite expensive otherwise....and why does a 3.2 liter V6 gasser car need two to begin with.....are there that many electronics on the car?

Yes, there are that many electronics on this car.
The main battery is a standard lead-acid group 49, just like in all other MB cars. Figure $100, plus or minus $25, depending on where you shop and what quality you buy. The secondary battery is under the hood. It's a common size used in motorcycles, ATVs, etc. and is AGM type. Can be had at most auto parts stores for ~$75 and is quite easy to replace. |
