Who knows what the color of this dash is called?
It's kinda light brown in a '94 C280. I bought a black one in the junkyard to replace it with and need to spray it to match. Anyone know the name of the color or which of these SEM paints would match: http://semproducts.com/images/Users/Chip%20Cards/VCS%20CC%202008.pdf Is there a color code for the dash in the car? |

It would have been called mushroom in Europe, either creme beige or parchment in the U.S. There should be an interior color code on the data plate in front of the radiator. But your screwed anyway since the dash never quite matches the seats and the suns fades it, etc. It's going to be either SEM Light Buckskin or Santa Fe - you just have to give them a try. SEM will send you a Color Coat color chart if you contact them - should be www.SEMproducts.com

The seat color is parchment, the dash is mushroom no matter what country you're in.

A car has only one interior color code and name. A 94 C-class would be code 105 if tex or code 205 if leather. The name can vary by market. 105/205 is called champignon in Germany, which is the German/French word for mushroom. But in the 94 C-class that color was called parchment in the U.S. sales brochures. Sixteen years later everyone calls it mushroom because that's what it's called on the EPC and the Russian VIN sites. But material suppliers in the U.S. often still call it parchment. Other interior color codes, like 265, can be called parchment in some U.S. models and creme beige in other model. Marketing people get to name these things and they just don't seem to be that precise. And there often isnt great consistency between the seat upholstery, door panels, center console, carpet and dash.

Well the color of the interior they will give a name to, sure. They typically are going to use the seat color, but then they try to use different colors on different areas such as the carpet, door panels, dash, etc. That notwithstanding, occasionally a bit has to be ordered for one of these different colored pieces. When doing that, it can be difficult to get the correct color. You can give the parts guy the VIN and show him the part, he can see the trim color code and see, like in this case, that it has a Parchment interior. Often times EPC can help select the right color part (the coordinating color, not parchment), other times you get a list of weird-sounding color names and have to take a WAG at it, I've had to do this many times. So, if you were to look up a dash panel for this car, unless the EPC tells you which color code to order, I am sticking with my guess that this specific dash color is called Mushroom, just from past experience. Sometimes they make it relatively easy, some times the list will be more like "Grey, Dark Grey, Black, Silver". THOSE guesses are always fun to make! The problem is in the US market there may be only 2 to 4 colors available but for whatever reason there are way more colors to choose from due to other colors being available in other countries.
As far as naming the colors, the colors I am talking about aren't the trim color names that sales uses, it's names for all these other colors that are used other than the main trim color, the name the sales guys use. These other colors, I would say someone in the parts division have to think up some appropriate name for all these colors and they do a pretty good job. atikovi, I would say saddle tan would be another possibility for the color name, there were lots of names, mushroom sticks in my mind for the name of that color, but Mushroom could have been from a different year/model and would definitely be a different color, if the color was identical they would definitely use the same name.

Actually now that I think of it, I think there was a lighter tan dash color which would make more sense that it would be called saddle tan. I am still pretty sure that dash you have was called Mushroom, it was a pretty common color.

That's OK, it's just a salvage car I bought for the engine but may just put back together and sell as a driver.

You can use Mercedes FREE electronic parts catalog (EPC) and enter your VIN number when searching for parts and when you find the dashboard it will give you the name of the color.
