E500s of the mid-2000s Era as Used Cars

Comments: I have run across a couple of these at what seems like a good price, considering condition, etc. I am interested in any particular comments from those holding The Knowledge. I am looking for a good E-Class and will probably get an older car, to avoid insurance, debt, and depreciation, but I may be tempted...
Thanks!

Air-matic repairs can br $$$
And many 2003 models had radiator/trans issues.
2003 models also had audio issues, some were never resolved.
Stick with a 2004 thru 2006, if you don't mind SBC brakes.

I would avoid the E500 just because it has Airmatic suspension as standard equipment. Go for the E320/E350 as per MB. Doc's suggestion.

I just bought a 04 E500 4matic, it seems like it will make a decent daily driver for my wife; pretty good power and it seems to work in the snow. I did find out that the warrantee on the SBC brakes was extended to 10 years, unlimited miles. Too many gadgets for my taste, but it's a decent little car.

I believe that is correct, but that seems to be the expensive piece. The SBC brakes do feel a little different than real brakes, but they do seem to work.
