W126 rear view mirrors - the glass

Okay, so whats the deal with the side and center mirror? For years I drove a Mark VIII and it had electrochromic mirrors. Using a photocell they would dim. The brighter the light, the more they dim. Pretty simple and very effective.

So after getting used to that I found it very hard driving other cars. Often time I would have to flip the center mirror. Very annoying even with dim lights on the car behind me. I had gotten very used to the Mark VIII!

Now with the Benz I find that I never, ever flip the center mirror. And the side mirrors never seem to glare at me. In fact they appear to dim the oncoming traffic very well. Yet during the day all is clear.

Anyone else think the same? Do the mirrors have some feature I do now know about? Other than the blue tint, the side mirrors look like any other. And the center rear certainly does not look special.

I think it is a type of antireflective coating. I have the same effect on my 300CE and it works really well at night.
