Rear subframe bushings
I have researched this do death but still have questions. The front rear subframe bushing on the passenger side is completely torn/blown. I have been having a really tail happy car lately, and its been unstable in cross winds. And rightly so, the entire subframe is moving around like jelly under load on that side.
The front rear subframe bushings look like no problem, subframe just needs to be dropped slightly. Push old one out and push new on in. I did find the tip to use some 1/2" threaded rod with washers/nuts to push the bushings out. All of the DIY and howto's I've found however, leave out the rear of rear subframe bushings. I've read that possibly the diff and prop shaft need to be disconnected and the the entire subframe dropped? Or can the rear mounts closest to bumper be done otherwise?

The rear 2 subframe mounts rarely need replacement.
Have only replaced 3-4 sets on that style of chassis. Takes 2 times as long, but can be done w/o removing the complete subframe.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. I will replace the forward bushings and see how it feels.

I think the rears were really easy to press out. I think I applied pressure and went in and ate dinner- came back and it was on the floor.
I did all 4 just based on age- none were torn badly. Front and rears both showed age signs an compression/settling. M |
