1994 E420 will not crank!

Hi,

I have a problem with my car where intermittently it will not crank. The lights on the dashboard come on but does not crank. I have tried cranking in N instead of P but the same thing happens.

I checked codes and got code 5, 6 on the built in LED and code 2 on pin 7 (EA/ISC). I have read all the post pertaining to this type of problem but this is very intermittent. It only happens sometimes and other times it is just fine.

One thing to note is that now it always starts on the second crank instead of the first crank like it use to before this problem started.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Could be neutral safety switch. That would explain the no crank situation. The starting on the second crank is probably something else. Tune-up perhaps.

The problem was eventually traced back to the rebuilt starter that installed back in 2007. I did try to tap the starter to see if it would start but I guess I did not tap hard enough. My indy replaced it and all is back to normal.
