Bent my subframe
Long story but driving down a dirt road with my 1991 190E 2.6 and I hit a rock and bent my subframe. It hit right where the spring link attaches and pushed it back about a inch and a half. I didn't notice it until got up to speed and noticed the going side to side when I hit dips in the road. I was hoping it was just the shock but I just had a look at it and found this out. Didn't think much of it at first until I noticed it was different from the other side.
So, my question is how do I fix it? Can it be straightened or replaced? What would be involved? What would happen if I just left it?

Most likely you will need to replace that subframe, find a good junk yard.

My local junk yard has one for $200. I guess I'll see what somebody can do straightening it.

I went to a couple of frame shops and they all said they wouldn't straighten it. A major suspension part like this would be too weak if it were straightened. So I just got a subframe and I'll do a R&R. It has the bushings and they seem in good shape so I'll keep them. I guess changing them takes special tools that I don't have. I also checked the bolts to see if they would come out okey and I was able to loosen them, it's nice living in a desert.
So a question is: about how long would this take?

I am in the same boat. I bought a spare frame so i might try to get the old one pulled just out of curiosity, but if that fails or makes it worse i'll just replace it.
The part is insanely flexible and light and thin for what it is... and yours is even smaller and lighter than mine. Not susprised they don't want to touch it. |

I saw that, it's been my guide.
My status: I got everything disconnected and started lowering it but the flex disc isn't seperating, that's why I'm on the computer. |
