1998 E320 4matic.... RACK and PINION Problem
My car developed slack on the left side, I narrowed it down to the rack and pinion seeing how when I removed the left tie rod I could pull in and out on it and you could see that side of the rack giving back and forth. Anyway I purchased one from a salvage yard, when I got the part I checked and the part number matched the one out of my car. I installed the part and went to drive the car and now right after your start moving and picking up speed, the triangle at the speedometer starts blinking and at random times the front brakes will lock up without even touching them. I made sure that the electrical connection was hooked up on the rack and it was. The car was perfect before I did the job so something with the used rack and pinion has to be doing this. I know after you replace some parts it needs to be reset by the dealer or someone with the expensive diagnostics, is this one of them? Or possibly could that electronic piece on the used rack and pinion be faulty? All help is appreciated.

Traction systems are very accurate & need EXACT input signals.
Most likely the steering angle sensor isn't giving correct info back to the traction system computer. Even 1 spline off at the steering coupling can cause that.
