87 300E just Shuts off intermitently...

When it rains it pours...LOL! My daughter's 1987 300E just started dying when driving home tonight after dinner. It will start right back up though. This happened to my 1991 300E a while ago but I've replaced so many parts I'm not sure what helped stop the issue. Her car always starts on first crank hot or cold and runs perfect. I was thinking OVP maybe but that just seems like the answer all the time. Rotor/Distributor maybe? What other info can I supply to narrow down possibilities?

Thanks again guys!

I never replaced that in mine. Where is it located on the '87? By the OVP?

Although it may indicate a intermittent ignition fault, most likely it is the fuel pump relay on its last leg before complete failure. Can be re-soldered but best if replaced as repairs may not last long.

Had the same problem with my 89 300TE, replaced the fuel pump relay and the car runs like brand new. Relay located behind battery on the TE
