Opinion Pls

Are either of the following models problematic and priced fair?

2003 Mercedes E320 Wagon 85,000 miles @ $13,000.00

2006 Mercedes E350 Wagon 62,000 miles @ $21,000.00

Both pretty much look very good, 2 owner cars.

Please give me some input as I am not familiar with these models.

God Bless
John

ASR is a Traction control system, can cause problems if they go funny. someone can chime in more on the models if they have it etc how to identify it and all that fun stuff

I'd avoid the 350, that engine is not as robust as the 320.

I'd never own an "03 211. Those cars weren't even nice when they were new. Most MB dealers won't CPO them because they're constant headaches. That's why used car dealers have so many of them.

All '03-'06 211's have extended warranty on the SBC braking system of ten years/umlimited mileage. Depending on the original date of delivery, the '03 may have less than two years of this warranty remaining. Also, the '03 sound system is junk. It's way too complicated, and it's not very reliable.

I'd go with the '06. Make sure you get a good after-market warranty! You'll need it.

The ASR function is incorporated into the ESP traction/stability system.

Hi -

The same old rules apply to a used car. Inspect, inspect and inspect. Most W210 forums have a 'Common Issues' thread which is worth reading. FYI, the 2003 wagon is a W210 but the sedan is a W211. There was a pretty big increase in the W210 with electronics. Some see it as features and some as headaches. I have read posts that the W211 was not as luxurious as the W210 but the W124 owners say the same about the W210.

If you plan on driving/owning it for a few years you probably won't recover the extra cost of the W211 in a resale.

Finally, if it were me I would probably select the one with the best evidence of care such as an accurate and complete written service record combined with a 'drives like a new car' experience.

Best of luck.

Thanks

Thanks for all the input.

I do my own work, been factory trained/certified Porsche mechanic and owned an AAMCO transmission shop for 12 years ( I was one of the good guys). Currently a complete shop/ tools and a complete machine shop, so I'm good for the mechanics.

I love working on the pre- 1980's Mercedes and have 500 and 560 sels.

If you can't afford to repair them, you netter be able to fix them yourself!

Thanks

Just a heads up that the 2003 E320 wagon he is looking at is still the W210 chassis.

In two years, the 2006 will be worth the $13,000 and in two years, the 2003 will be worth $10,000. I like how the newer ones look, but I think I'd rather save the money and buy the w210.
