off center steering slop in clk 320-- how to adjust?

ive got a 98 clk 320 convertible. on center steering has little play and good feel. when i turn the wheels halfway to the stop and move the tire side to side there is a large amount of play. ive checked all the joints and links and they are fine. so basically its ok in a straight line, when the wheel is turned the slop increases markedly. is there a way to adjust this without effecting the on center feel??

I believe that indicates worn lower ball joints. Have you checked those?

You will find that adjustment will not fix your issue. If you have ruled out suspension bushings / links, then the steering box will most likely need to be replaced/rebuilt.
