I'm considering replacing the small fuel tank (16 gallons) in my '96 E300D with the larger tank (21 gallons) that came in the E320/420. (EPC says large tank 210 470 55 01 is an option for the E300D.) Does this leave less room in the trunk? The extra 5 gallons has to go somewhere!

Someone with a '96-99 E320/420, please tape the depth of your trunk and let me know what you get. My E300 trunk depth is about 35 inches (see pictures).
