How to open up dash wood trim area?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to take off the wood trim around the pushbutton assembly on a 1992 300E. It is that big piece of wood right above the radio, that holds the AC controls and some rocker switches. I need to get access to the pushbutton assembly and a rocker switch. Thanks.

Take a look at JCE's DIY article about stereo installation in the 124's. I think he covers the removal of that panel as well.

On the 126 I had to carefully pry that panel down a tad to pop it out after the ashtray and stereo were removed. Once pried down it just sort of popped out enough to pull it from the dash and disconnect the plugs on the back of the switches. Be careful of the optic light cables that run to several of the switches.

I just took a look at his article again, he covered everything but the ACC panel. I think you will still have to pull the ashtray and stereo (at least the head unit) to get the ACC panel out.

I believe there are two screws above the radio ont he underside of that console.

Pull out the center console shifter wood. Then the ashtray. undo the screws back there, and undo the screws on the underside of the acc controls section if it has them.

Carefully pry it back and it should come out.

You only need to remove the 2 screws that pass through the wood just above the radio...no need to touch the radio or ashtray. With the 2 screws removed, gently pivot the lower part of the wood away from the dash; when it's at about a 45 degree angle you simply pull the entire piece away at the top...there are 2 hinges/hooks at the top of the wood that hook into the dash assembly.
