1998 C280 - All Power Windows Non-Operable

Hi,

I lurk on this forum every now and then. I have 2 W202s I am working on. One is a 1999 (mine) and the other is a 1998 (my Dad's). The 1998 is having issues with power windows. All windows as of this morning are not operative. Besides checking the fuses, is there a relay that controls all 4 windows?

Also, both cars have intermittent operating power seats. Is there a relay for these too?

Update: The fuses on the 1998 check out for the windows and seats.

To fix the windows, where do I go from here? They worked fine yesterday from what my father said.

Both cars have a networked interior series of computers.
The window switch is a computer as well as each door has a module.

Start with the most likely, the switch assembly. SWAP them.

Hi,

The dealer referred me to replacing this part number: 001 542 78 19

They call it a multi-function / comfort relay. They say the relay controls the seats and even the windows on 98-00 w202s.

Any other thoughts?

Do a search. Search is very powerful. If you searched on "C280 seats" you would find this thread:

'98 C280 Power seat problems

That thread answers the seat problem. As far as windows, they are all on the CAN bus like MB DOC said. I never heard of them all failing at once. I did not know that relay had to do with the windows also. It is worth a try. You can try fixing it as explained in the other thread or just buy it.
