84 190E Transmission

I have a 84 190E with less that 100K on it. The motor is near perfect & it was awesomely taken car of. The trans is not shifting & has a leak. Can I get a trans replaced for under 2K? I got such a good deal on it I'm willing to spend up to 2K to get another 100K out of it.

My 1984 190E has 220k on the OEM transmission.

It also had a leak, and wouldn't shift right.

I replaced the vacuum modulator on the transmission itself, along with a filter and fluid change. The leak was from the modulator itself, and when we pulled the pan, we found that the previous owner had removed the filter, and didnt replace it. I replaced the filter.

I've been driving the car for 4 years now, and it is shifting just fine.

Maybe this is your problem?
My first Mercedes Benz. 4/6/07.

If your talking about a junkyard transmission swap, and having it done I would think yes. If you are talking about a mercedes remanufactured transmission swapped and ready to go definitely not. I would think you would want to be sure of what is wrong before you replace it. You could do some testing like check it for vacuum at the transmission or not? Also, try to determine where the leak is. If it's the pan that's leaking etc. The transmission is an expensive repair on them, and it's best to do it right! Just an oil and filter change at a shop on them is probably 150 to 200.
