The head rests and the roll bar are the same thing in the E320 Cab,
The head rests replace the single roll bar that is installed in the R129 (SLs). The mechanism for the head rests is all behind the rear seats - there are 2 screws behind the centre armrest, which when removed will allow you to remove the seat back which will expose the raising / lowering system (once you remove the insulation). AFAIK thre is a reset procedure using the dash switch - I don't have the manual at hand right now.

Car has been in the Helms Brothers Mercedes dealer since 9:35 7/18/2011. As of 12:00 PM 7/19/2011 the service advisor states they have at least (3) mechanics looking at the top issue over as they believe there is a short.
I have also been advised that control arms are needed to the tune of $ 1,900 This I do not believe , it might need control arm bushings which shouldn't cost more than $300 to install on all sides at an indie. I am awaiting the verdict for the convertible top. Any comments folks |

Okay gang here we go. I just got a call from the Mercedes dealership . They advised that they have to change/replace the S83/2 switches. Can they be reset and should they be replaced? Your comments please.

Those are the roll bar switches located In the rear suspension. They should be able to reset them and test them. I would ask what they did to confirm the switches are bad.

After reading through the thread, I have the suspicion that the problem would have gone away if the rollbar/headrests/tombstones were simply lowered by the button on the dash, as vexed suggested over a week ago.

Glad you got it fixed, the price of the switches was not too bad, some of the cylinders for the top are much more.

Thanks again to all for your input and advice, (ds 190) hit it on the mark. It took three days for the dealer to figure it out even after I told them. This site is great. Now to tackle a hydraulic leak right under the rear passenger seat/wheel. I'm open for suggestions. Cold it be the right cover hydro cylinder or a disconnected resevoir ?

It could be either of the right side cylinders (main or bow) or one of the lock cylinders(tonneau or bow).
My tonneau lock cylinder was leaking and the fluid ended up in the right fender draining out in front of the RR wheel.

I have a similar issue, My tombstones wouldn't go down and the lights for them on the dash are always on. While inspecting the rear axle switches i found one which the "arm" was broken. Can I put a paperclip in there to simulate the switch and it will always be closed? Or where can I buy a replacement switch online??

I tried to plug my scanner into ports 1, 16 and #2 in the passengers footwell but It won't work. If I plug into port 9 I get a code 1.
