I am new to this forum and I have a ML320 with 270K miles. The transmission has a leak which I need to locate and fix. Thanks for all the help from this forum. The problem I noticed is when the transmission fluid is low it starts to slip but the engine shuts off. Is there a sensor or something which shuts the engine off?

Not in the trans.
Most common reason for engine stalling is the crank position sensor.

Yes it was the CPS sensor thanks for this information. The SUV seems to be running smoothly again.
