Exclamation French W124/201 Headlights?

Sorry about all the Headlight questions but after searching, all I find is W123 info regarding the topic. How did the 124/201 comply with the law requiring French national cars have yellow fog lights? I have Bosch Euro's for both. that have white fogs, the OEM Fogs have Yellow bulbs (cadmium?) Was the lens yellow?? Was the reflector yellow with white bulbs? Or just yellow bulbs? I think the law was in effect until the mid-90's. Any W124/201 pics of this configuration out there? Will my OEM H3 yellow bulbs do the trick? Thanks again! Clip BTW I searched...

I have no answers for your questions...

But you can take the yellow "jar's" from the US w124 fog lights and make them fit Euro lights. That way you do not need to use yellow bulbs.

Yellow reflectors with clear bulbs. Pics shown below are OEM Hella french euros.

Here's how I converted my Bosch euros to Bosch "FRENCH" euros.

Bucket NAM headlights from 84-86 W201. So I am assuming your W201 is 87 or later, otherwise you would already have them.

I have an 87 190D and a 86 300E getting the conversion. My 87 had amber balloons on the Fogs, I like the Yellow reflector better. I REALLY like the pic of the OEM French spec Hellas, where did ya find those?

Yellow Fogs

When I put Euros in my 124, since I really liked the yellow fogs, I just took the entire fog lamp assembly (socket) out of the US spec lights and mounted in the Euro bucket. No trying to make that little yellow baloon fit onto a socket not meant to hold it. If I recall, it was easy, and the fogs work great. ScotzBenz

Thats the way to go....

unfortunately, my 86 300E had a light hit around 2002 by the PO, the lights were replaced with the non-yellow fogs. The 87 190D din't have them. Anyone used the Duplicolor Spray Paint method in Dan Sterns website? He talks about a couple of methods, the first is to pain the exterior of the lens, then the inside, if accessible. I though painting the reflector would be a good idea, but am afraid of dampening the light output. Anyone tries the "Paint the Reflector" method? With Yellow Stars? Thanks!

Here is what the stock bucket headlights looked like on the 84-86 W201s.
I didn't want to touch mine, boxed them up after I removed them from the car. Instead got some crappy ones through CL for really cheap, lucky for me the yellow fog reflectors were still good on them...modded them to fit the euros.

Paint the reflector?

I saw a Dan Stern article talking about Duplicolor painting the lens of a headlamp assembly. Has anyone tried to paint the reflector to get Selective Yellow? Seems like its worth a try, just thinking about the heat....
