replace the ignition coil too, it maybe showing spark under atmospheric pressure, but maybe failing to bridge it when the engine is at TDC, I have experienced that once in another car.

No go. Verified pulsing exhaust in back at pipe with GF cranking motor. Checked ignition coil in my dad's 190 and fired right up... got new cap and put on... could the timing chain have jumped a sprocket and be off a bit?

Replaced distributor rotor and spark plugs and she lives... runs very rough thanks to #1 and #6 intake lobes being sheared off apparently, but that is an issue to be addressed in a new thread.
