How do you compress the valve springs with the valve spring compressor part # K-D 2078? I am following the article in the Resources tab DIY, but when I connect the compressor and start turning it, it pulls the spring upwards and strats to compress at the top part instead of pushing the spring down towrds the block. I'm afraid that I may rip the spring out of the block if I keep going. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Sounds like the keepers are tight in the retainer. I usually take a mallet and give a light rap to the top of the valve spring before compressing them. Make sure your point of contact is straight down on top the valve, a glancing blow may bend something. If you are using air to hold the valves up and you find they still stick you can give a light rap on the top of the spring compressor to release them. Since you are compressing against the spring retainer at the top of the valve it is normal for the bottom to pull up, no harm will come from it.

So I'm doing it right? It looks like I'm pulling the spring up instead of pushing it down

Yes, until you unseat the keepers from the retainer, you will pull the spring up towards the retainer.
