This is a 1997 E420 (W210 with 722.6 tranny) the shifter would move from park to drive without issues. But I have to force to the left in order to **** it into the lower gears.

The main problem is moving it from the right to left at position D so that I can drop it down.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Most likely is the sliding trim "shutter", MB part 140-267-03-26

Can be replaced in about 1/2 hour
