Morning from Barbados, it's still early here and just warming up. Being a newbie here I'm still trying to figure out the forum so please bare with me. Actually found a 78 450 SLC with only 5000 km on it down here on the rock, looks like new, but ran very quietly. Someone had actually made home made shims for under the cam towers to lift the cams enough to let the valves close, lifters were plugged with crud from sitting, then the timing chain froze and the valves made love with the pistons. Brought in a engine from the US, mine is German heritage, boy did I get screwed, think the motor was underwater for several years, but after six months was able to rebuild the original high compression unit.
It runs well but at 1500 to 2000 rpm on cold start then drops to 5-600 when warm. Have located a few vacuum leaks and it has helped but I'm still having problems finding a vacuum line diagram showing the pick up from the motor to the main system, shifts high in gear also so I'm not sure if I'm getting vacuum to the modulator valve on the tranny. Will post pictures later as I'm just now in the process of repainting, the sun killed the original finish down here.
