Help, I'm desperate, parts needed for '97 S500!

We have the accumulators off the rear suspension and everything came apart OK except the line from the right accumulator to the right shock. That one one broke.

Also, we changed the steering damper a few days ago and must not have gotten the threaded bolt tight enough and it fell out somewhere on the road. The other side, which is a nut and bolt is fine, but everything we've tried on the side where the bolt threads in seems like it should fit but doesn't.

We've tried everyone we can think of for the parts, including the dealer, but no luck. Would anyone have either or both of these that they'd be willing to sell? Thanks!

Not sure about your location but your best bet would probably be a wrecking yard if even the dealer doesn't have what you are looking for. Otherwise, it would be very helpful to post the part numbers of what you are looking for. I had a quick look at the Mercedes EPC and it wasn't immediately obvious to me what you were looking for. Or hopefully someone with an S class will be in a position to be more helpful.

Found the hydraulic line, still need the bolt.

No luck finding ANY Mercedes in local wrecking yards, but we were able to get a part number from the dealer and then found the hydraulic line on eBay. The seller offered overnight shipping so we may be all set on that part.

Now we just need the bolt that holds the steering damper to the center link. We tried everything we could find at the local parts sellers and hardware stores but what they have has the wrong thread pitch. We need something with a finer pitch. I'm thinking the bolt from just about any year Mercedes might work. So . . . if you've got a parts car sitting around that still has that bolt in place, I'd love it if you'd be willing to sell it to me. I'm in north central Illinois, about 100 miles west of Chicago and 20 miles south of Rockford. If you're anywhere in a 100 mile radius, or so, I'd be glad to pick it up. Thanks.

Try searching on car-part.com for parts specific to an S-Class near your zip code. You may have to search for a fender or an engine or something different than what you are looking for (best to search for a very common part that is specific to your year/model). But that should help you locate what salvage yards within 100 miles have an S-Class. You could then call them or visit to obtain the part you need. I just tried doing this for a chicago zip code and there seem to be plenty of wrecking yards with vehicles that seem like they would be a match. Also, I think you say you have the part number -- if you post it, we here on the forum can most likely be a whole lot more useful.

Have you tried S-Class Eddies here His site has literally thousands of parts for "S" class MBs.

The last piece of the puzzle is finally in place. We found the correct bolt at a hardware store in nearby Rockford, Illinois. 10M-1.0 x 50mm.

S Class Eddie looks like a great resource. Thanks for sharing!

The hydraulic line from the accumulator to the right shock is part# A140 320 16 72. It should be about $60 from the dealer.

EDIT: Oops, just saw that you had found it.

Thanks for the info. We called the local dealer who gave us the part number and quoted a price of $100. I would have paid it but they couldn't get the part to me before sometime next week. That's when I took the number and went looking elsewhere.

The good news is the car is all back together and the bouncy suspension is finally cured. It now ride like a Mercedes!

Glad you got it fixed. By the way, love the Spitfires. I bought a Miata because I love roadsters, but a Triumph or an MG is what I would really love to have. I had a TR3 when I was in high school and have always wished I'd kept it.
