My E420 has been starting in limp home mode every morning when it's cold out, but there is no accompanying ASR light, as is usually the case in a limp-home scenario.

I can turn the engine off and restart and it won't give me any problems for the rest of the day. Any ideas? The ETA was rebuilt once a few years back, the wiring harness was replaced, and the brake and neutral safety switch were also just replaced. Is this a typical symptom of a failing ETA?
