Thank you for responding. I have a 1992 300E MB and the illuminated switches remain on. The dome light does shut off. Is this a relay or the head lamp switch.

It sounds like different issues. The dome light could be a bad wire to a door switch, or a bad dome light. The dash lights staying on sounds like the headlamp switch. Easy test... unplug the headlamp switch and see if they go out.
