Trans Control Modules....

ANyone know if someone is rebuilding/refurbing them? I'm surprised that I haven't easily found someone doing so. The unit is in a W208 CLK430, 722.6 US model, , the software says that TCM is defective. Someone have a suggestion or experience here? Thanks if you can help...

Are you having trans issues or do you just have the fault code that says the ECU is bad? I see this code pop up all the time while doing SDS scans for other issues, and it doesn't have any effect on transmission performance.

Yes, I have issues....

many folks might not notice, but after 30+ years with these things, I do.
I have a surege/flair at upshift in all gears, it's slight, but detectable. More of a concern, if you try to shift it through the manual/selectable program, it will get a mind of its own, and has even jumped out of gear on two or three occasions, and will not find a gear. A quick pull over, stop, and refire will put her back in business, but something is obviously not right. Our scanner says "trans control module faulty". No CEL though, which I thought was bit unusual. I called BBA to see if they reman/exchange these things, and was surprised to see they didn't. Neither does Programa. Thanks for any insight you can provide....

Do you see any transmission fluid leaks when you remove the cover?

Have you considered ebay?

Seconded for their expertise and reputation, however there is some interesting language on their site now about being unable to do TCMs. Something about MBUSA forbidding 3rd parties from selling them??

Yes, this is what concerns me....

I think I'm going to be forced to buy the box. My wrench also suggested Beckmann ....but I don't think they are doing them. I was hoping bba could do it ( hi Jim ),but so far, no good news there . You should all hope that this doesn't come up, as this is one of the items that mb has drastically raised the price on. I know how much it is now, do you? You'll be shocked.
In case you haven't realized it yet, they are not going to continue to let you fix your older car, unless you really, REALLY want to.

Also, eBay...

Yes I'm willing to take a bit of a flyer on an eBay one, but I'm unsure if the box will talk to the tranny. The new one must be ordered with the vin, etc, and apparently has to be flashed.
Next?

One other thing (sorry)..

The beckmann site refers to repair of conductor plates( and the suspension of repairs on them for 722.9.) please note that I dont have a conductor plate problem, but a control unit problem. And this is a 722.6.
The notes on their site just confirm what I was mentioning above.

Diagnosing the difference between a bad ECU and an internal transmission problem isn't that difficult. Have the transmission adaptation values been checked and re-set? Has the pan been removed and checked for signs of metal/clutch material?
