w126 500SEL distributor cap

So my cars been running rough and i looked at the rotor arm inside the cap and it looked pretty bad. I went to a pickit pullit yard and unfortunately all of the w126 first gen v8 cars had all of the rotors and cap assemblies take. I did manage to find an assembly from a 1988 second gen 420SEL. I know the assembly on this setup is much bigger but i think it will fit and for $10 I thought I might as well get it. So anyone out there know if the second gen style rotor and cap would be able to be used on a first gen car?
