W124 Dripping/ticking sound

W124 1990 300CE has a dripping or ticking sound that I hear in the interior when the radio is off. Is this a normal sound or?? It seems to be going on when the engine is cold or hot.

Thanks in advance.

No A/C, no fan, nothing.

Thought I read somewhere in one of the threads that the radiator fluid drips into a "bladder" near the heater core or something as the car is running but I can't seem to find out if that is true and I can't find the thread anymore.

Turn the car on but don't run the engine... see if the sound is audible.

On cars in general, if the coolant level is low ( radiator water ) the heater core sometimes makes noise because it is partly filled with air.

Sound is audible when key is in the #2 position (ignition on) but engine not running. Coolant level seems to be fine.

ford

My Ford makes a sound exactly like dripping - fast at first, then slower drips. I always notice after I park it in the quiet garage. It's the catalytic converter or some other piece of the exhaust cooling down. This only happens when the engine is hot. Always gets my attention.

(It leaks oil anyway so I'm not disappointed when I look under the car.)

No, this is something inside the car, it seems, car can be cold or hot. I know what you mean with the sound of the cat but that is not it.

Still trying to figure this out.
