Has this transmission been improved , re: 1st & reverse band that fails too early in my opinion. And has this engine proven to be a sound power plant?
I'm referring to the single cam & twin cam straight 6 that has head gasket failures prematurely again in my opinion. I'm going to move to a newer wagon from '95 E320 one that will exceed 200K miles with my tender care. Does such a wagon exist, besides a diesel? I'd buy a '98 300 td wagon if I could ever find one for sale did they really sell them in usa? thanks for help |

Oh, I see what you mean, can you get a 210 wagon, a gasser, that will top 200K if you take good care of it, yes I believe if you take care of a Mercedes, any of them will easily run over 200K, I would go so far as to say that ANY Mercedes, if well taken care of, will go over 500K miles, again with regular maintenance, nothing over the top, just MB recommended intervals. But 200K is nothing with proper care.

No diesel wagons for the USA after 1987. There were diesel, there were wagons- no wagons after 1987 had a diesel power plant however that were sold in the USA.

I have a 2001 E320 wagon that I bought in 2003 with 58K miles on it. It now has 150K and has been very reliable except for known issues that include defective instrument cluster pixels, left rear window regulator, electrical transmission connector leakage, rear suspension accumulators and door rust. MB changed motor mounts, fuel lever sender, differential seals under extended warranty within a year after I purchased it and repaired the door rust under a special campaign. I have used Mobil 1 0W-40 changed every 5-7K, changed transmission fluid for first time at 92K and 40K after that and specified air filter, cabin filters and spark plugs according to schedule. I previously owned a 1991 300TE (bought used with 118K and drove to 260K) and find the W210 to be at least as reliable as the 300TE. I am confident/hopeful that they car will deliver 300+K miles without issue. Mark

I would accept that MTUpower is correct on that, I just remember the sedans and didn't recall that there were no longer diesel wagons.
